Monday Night Knitting Group

It's always hard to get together when it's so close to the holidays . . . but there was still a handful of merry souls that met last night!

Joy was in the holiday spirit . . .  and not just in name!! She is making tree ornaments . . . literally! Look at these cute things. By the end of the night she had little balls sewn onto it.














Speaking of ornaments, Peggy 
gifted us each with a
'sweater' . . . complete with a little clothes hangar.

Peggy is also on the cutting edge. Yesterday I was browsing (also known as wasting about an hour) through Pinterest and noticed a lot of Pins of 'pony tail' hats. Some had the opening at the top (also known as a 'bun' hat), and some had the hole in the back. Peggy of course already had one knitted up!!






 Lizzy brought . . . okay, did you notice that it doesn't involve yarn? They were delicious! As she started to explain the recipe, she told us it was in the Barefoot in Paris cookbook. Of course I ran up to our non-fiction section and grabbed it!

They are called Elephant Ears, or Palmiers. I like Palmiers much better than Elephant Ears.













Linda brought in her finished 'Football Season' scarf . . . with a matching Patriot's hat. What lucky grandkids!!










Linda is also working on her Christmas Gifts. Check out what she is working on. She was worried about her gauge . . . but I told her if it came out too big . . . well, just get a bigger wine glass to put in it!

It was a wonderful night of knitting . . . coffee . . . cookies . . . and Palmiers. (See, doesn't that sound better than Elephant Ears?)

I recommend them. Go ahead . . . check out the book, make them, and tell me I'm wrong. I don't think you can.

Monday Night knitting Group

It seems like just last month when the Monday Night group met . . . but suddenly it's September . . . and back to school . . . and another night of knitting!

Linda is making this scarf with a funky edge in a shade of chartreuse that I am coveting. She found the pattern on Ravelry . . . it would be nice if I could remember the name of the pattern . . . but of course I can't!!

To block it you insert a dowel in the loops and then they stay flat. 

I can't wait to see it done.

Peggy is making hats for her grandchildren  . . .












. . . and she made a cute Christmas stocking for a 3 month old. (She thought about putting a candy cane in the mitten . . . the group voted and thought a little single serving bottle of wine for the mother would be better!)









Mary was busy too. Cute sweaters with matching bonnets.











We had new faces . . . which is always fun.

Audrey is one of our new grandmothers . . . so she is working on a baby sweater.















 



Marguerite is finishing up her prayer shawl.

. . . and Pat is working on a beaded cowl. 
















Lots of other projects going on too . . . sweaters, hats, and yes . . . even a breast prosthesis!!

Hmm . . . perhaps my favorite Knitting Night of all is the one that falls right before Christmas. 



I wonder why?

Perhaps it's because of the mini cheesecakes or the Grinches made from fruit . . . or the cookies or chocolates or Christmas bread.

I'm really not sure which it is!!





But of course there was knitting involved too.

Peggy made the cutest little knitting bag ornaments for everyone. Now when I look at my tree I will think of all my knitting friends.

Here she is showing us the American Girl doll outfit she made. Because it was Peggy that made it, there is not only a reindeer sweater . . . but matching pants, mittens and ear warmers.







Then . . . just to out-do herself . . .



Yes, a knitted bike seat cover! (Well I guess if your granddaughter asks if you can make her one . . . then what is a grandmother to do?!)










Lizzie's sweater is almost done.

Monday Night Knitting

Hand surgery, weddings, and expectant mothers kept some of our knitters away . . . but we still had lots of friends to chat with and projects to view!



There was roving to touch and feel . . . the white is merino wool and feels like you are holding a cloud in your hand . . . the cranberry/green/brown is yak and silk and feels like . . . well it feels like nothing you have touched before!! (So soft!!!)

And still more roving . . . 
this one looked like autumn. Nancy joined us and started in with 'autumn' using her drop spindle . . . makes me want to try it again!!












Dinah brought in her skein of yarn that she was spinning last month. It's gorgeous. All I can think of is a field of lavender on a hillside in Scotland . . . with a castle in the background. (I don't even know if lavender grows in Scotland . . . ).

More beautiful colors! 

Linda finished a scarf/shawl made of sock yarn. 
It's like a sunset . . . reds and a little orange showing too.









Joan finished her ornament and is starting another one.















Marguerite finished her afghan. OMG . . . it makes me want to grab it from her, make a cup of tea and sit down with a book.

I love Monday nights. A wonderful group of talent and support . . . all under one roof!

Monday Night Knitting Group

The temperatures are finally making it feel like Fall!! Good thing all the 'Monday Night Knitters' have been busy!!




Lizzy's husband will have a warm head.

(I just hope he isn't shoveling the same amount of snow we got last year when he is wearing it!!)

Margaret is working on her afghan . . . even though it's not done, she'll stay warm with it sitting in her lap while she is knitting away! 
















Peggy, aka 'the human knitting machine', finished this gorgeous cabled shawl. It's a donation for a cancer support group . . .it will keep someone who needs an extra hug warm . . . I bet it will warm their heart too.

'The Human Knitting Machine' has also finished all these adorable sweater sets for the many future moms-to-be that she knows. 


Did I mention that she also works?? How DOES she do it??













Pat will stay warm with this Norwegian hat.

It makes me want to start a two-color project! 

We even talked about steeks . . . I freely admit that I am a chicken. The thought of cutting my knitting. I know, I know . . . it's done all the time . . . but . . . gasp!

Linda is making a 'football' scarf . . . or is it a cowl? 

It's a pretty cool concept. You start it at the beginning of the season using your team colors and knit while you watch the games. For every touchdown you knit a certain amount of rows . . . using one color for the home team and the other for the opposition. If there is a touchback (and other footballish terms) you knit a certain amount of rows, etc. When the game is over you knit a white stripe. . . then pick it up again the next week. At the end of the season you will have a creation that will keep any football fan warm!






Joan is working on Christmas Tree ornaments. 

I think she has the patience of a saint to be doing these!!













Martha is using this awesome yarn that . . . yes, she spun herself!! (I think that makes her kind of awesome too!).

I wish you could feel how soft it is.














Speaking of spinning . . . Dinah's fleece is a blend of greens and purples and it's pretty much just to die for. (Or is that to 'dye' for?!)

Carol's fleece is gray . . . also really nice!!

Monica is making an I-cord with a pretty nifty device. Makes me think of a great way to edge a sweater!!








So much talent . . . so many warm items!

Look at us!! Who wouldn't want to come and knit or spin with a group like this??!!














Plus the library is air conditioned - always a plus when it's 92 degrees!

Peggy's afghan is gorgeous! All those cables!

Joy's scarf is coming along . . . 

Janet started a swatch for a sweater she's going to make . . . the color is great . . . coral? peach? . . . not sure, but I love it!


Marguerite is still working on her afghan . . . hers also has lots of cables!

There's always lots of baby sweaters . . . and with so many 'future grammies' . . . I bet there will be even more!













Joan is working on Christmas Ornaments  . . . 















. . . and Pat is weaving a necklace . . . little-tiny-beads-onto-thread-with-a-sewing-needle. YIKES! Talk about tinkerish work. (It's really pretty awesome).

Monday Night Knitting Group

Favorite day to work? The third Monday of the month!! I love the chance to sit and meet with my 'knitting friends'. 

Look what they accomplished this time!








It's not spread out . . . so you can't tell that this is a beautiful cotton lace pattern.









An afghan still on the needles . .  . I love all these cables!













A blanket ready to be blocked . . . it's going to keep someone toasty warm!













Speaking of being warm . . . hand-knit socks will do it too!!

There is an expectant mom out there that is going to receive a great shower gift! Two sweaters, hats, burping cloths . . . 









These knitters inspire me every month. They are knitting for cancer, for church charities . . . for everyone but themselves!!
